2007 British/Eire Traditional Tae Kwon Do Association Individual Championships
TTA Cornwall Wins Overall Championships Shield
Fourteen Cornwall members of the martial arts school Traditional Tae Kwon Do Association Cornwall, Chief Instructor Grandmaster T.K. Loh 8th Dan and Instructed by Steven Shields 3rd Dan returned from the British/Eire Traditional Tae Kwon Do Association Championships with a large medal haul. The Championships were attended by clubs from UK and Eire and hosted at The Time Capsule Coatbridge Scotland. The Cornwall TTA team came back to the South West victorious with a total of 17 medals, making Traditional Tae Kwon Do Association Cornwall the overall winners of the Championships and bringing the challenge shield to the South West for the very first time.
The TTA Championships always attracts a very high standard of Tae Kwon Do student, during the day of fierce competition Hollie Fleming (15) was the first to take a medal with Gold in the yellow belt poomsae, Chris Danby (38) and Ashley Edwards (8) took Silver And Bronze respectively in the green belt poomsae, Laine Gynn (34) took Gold in the red belt poomsae, Richard Webb (13) and Amir Ghatreh (23) took Gold and Silver in the black tag poomsae, Toby Fleming (14) won Gold in the junior black belt poomsae and Steven Shields (40) Gold in black belt 3rd Dan poomsae.
The Kyorugi (full contact sparring) competition saw the Cornwall students dig deep and put up some incredible shows of courage and determination emerging victorious across a wide range of weight categories. The children's -37kg saw an all Cornwall final with Jack Saint (9) taking victory from Ashley Edwards (8). Ryann Batt (9) +37kg won Gold with Finn Tregenza narrowly missing out in the quarter finals. In the junior male -45kg Aiden Trembath (14) won Gold making him 3 times British Champion in his weight category, in his first ever competition aged 10 he won silver. Richard Webb (13) won silver in the -55kg. The Championships saw another all Cornwall final in the junior male -73kg with Toby Fleming (14) winning Gold and Charlie Gigg (15) winning Silver. Hollie Fleming (15) went on to take her second Gold in her first competition in the -68kg junior female category. Joseph Lyward (16) in the adult male -62kg took Silver, Chris Danby -84kg adult male also took Silver in his first competition.
