Taekwondo

The editorial below was written by Ryan Batt who is 9 years old (at time of writing), these are his words and understanding of Tae Kwon Do. As this is all his own work, I feel it is only correct to publish it unedited and as he wrote it.

BACK

My name is Ryan Batt and I am 9 years old. I started Taekwondo in Nov 2004 when I was 6 years old.

In April 2007, when I was 8, I went to Scotland and did the black belt grading. Which I passed! Taekwondo is hard work but my teacher, Mr Shields, helps us and I really like going to training. I feel more confident and have pride in myself from doing Taekwondo. I have achieved 3 ‘A’ passes on the way to my junior black belt, one of which was my black tag.  I feel fitter and healthier and love free sparring no matter how big my opponent is.

I have free sparred with Mr Shields and with Grand Master Loh and I want to be a 9th Dan  so that when I retire I can get my 10th Dan presented to me by the Korean President. The best thing of all is that I got my junior black belt (1st poom) at a younger age than either Mr Shields or Grand Master Loh!

Yes!!

I love Taekwondo
