TRADITIONAL TAE KWON DO ASSOCIATION SOUTH WEST RESULTS
A jubilant team from Traditional Tae Kwon Do Association Cornwall have just returned from the 23rd TTA Championships with 3 gold, 2 silver & 2 bronze medals.
Team manager and Coach Steven Shields spent several months preparing a team of 7 students to compete at this high level. The team travelled from Cornwall to Glasgow a round trip of 1100 miles for the 23rd Traditional Taekwondo Association British Championships and invitational to compete against teams from England, Scotland and Ireland.
Samantha Saunders began the winning streak by taking silver in the pattern division followed by Toby Fleming taking bronze. More medals were to follow in the individual free sparring. Aiden Trembath, 12 and Martyn Adrien, 15 stormed through the opposition to win golds in the children’s flyweight & junior featherweight competitions. In the junior flyweight competition Joseph Lyward, 15 won a tremendous battle that went to 3 rounds in the semi-final only to meet fellow team player Leo Oates, 15 who had also won through to make it an all Cornwall final. Leo took gold and Joseph silver. The jubilant juniors then watched Chris Adrien, 16 in a thrilling fight where he took bronze in the senior fly & fin weight. Also with the team was Gary Green who officiated as a referee.
Steven Shields said "This has been a very successful year for the TTA South West, we had 4 players compete in Malaysia where we won team bronze, a silver and 3 individual bronze medals. The aim now is to develop and refine the skills gained this year so we can improve on next season."
